For the first time in school history, The University of Montana women's cross country team captured the Big Sky Championship on Saturday in Cheney, Wash. The Northern Arizona men, led by three-time individual champion David McNeill, won its fourth straight men's championship.

Montana last won conference cross country championship in 1984, completing a run of back-to-back titles in the old Mountain West women's conference.

Idaho State's Erica Wendt-Richardson took home the individual title, catching Montana's race leader and second-place finisher Katrina Drennan in the last mile. Wendt-Richardson finished the 5k course with a time of 15:46.55

"I just knew that if I waited till the end to kick, (Drennen) would outkick me," Wendt-Richardson said. "I just took the last mile and tried to pick it up a little bit."

Northern Arizona's David McNeill finished the 8k course in 21:28.07, followed by teammate Diego Estrada two seconds behind.
