All-Sports Trophy
The All-Sports Trophy has been a part of the Big Sky Conference since its inception in 1963. The trophy is designed to award schools for overall athletic excellence. Schools are awarded points based on team finish in the regular season Big Sky standings for soccer, volleyball, football, men’s and women’s basketball and tennis. Points are also awarded in men’s and women’s cross country, indoor track & field, outdoor track & field and women’s golf by virtue of finish at the Big Sky Championship. Teams are ranked according to average points per sport rather than total points accumulated.
The Big Sky has determined a Men’s All-Sports Trophy winner since 1963, while the first women’s All-Sports Trophy winner was announced in 1989 following the first academic year that the league sponsored women’s athletics. From 1989-2002 a combined winner was determined by including all the men’s and women’s sports. In 2003 the combined award was replaced by the Sterling Savings Bank Presidents’ Cup, which also takes into account academic performance by member institutions along with athletic competition.
The winners of the 2010-11 trophies were Northern Arizona on the men’s side. Montana and Portland State tied on the women’s side.
The Montana women earned the 2010 Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championship, the program’s first conference title since 1984. Montana finished second at the outdoor track and field championship, third at the indoor track and field championship, third in the tennis standings, and tied for third in volleyball. Montana finished fourth at the golf championship and fourth in the regular-season basketball standings.
The Portland State women tied for first in the volleyball and basketball standings, earned its second straight golf championship, and finished second in the soccer standings. This is Portland State's first All-Sports Trophy.
Northern Arizona won its 10th Men’s All-Sports Trophy.
The Northern Arizona men’s season was highlighted by a championship at the cross country championship. The Lumberjacks finished second in both track and field championships, tied for second in tennis, and finished fourth in the basketball standings.
