OGDEN, Utah (April 10, 2018) - Northern Arizona had a pair of athletes earn #BigSkyTF Athlete of the Week honors, while both Montana State and Eastern Washington also had an athlete represented among this week’s honorees.
Montana State’s Amanda Jaynes was named the Big Sky Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while NAU’s Brooke Andersen earned the Big Sky Women’s Field Athlete of the Week honor.
On the men’s side, Eastern Washington’s Logan Stahl earned the Big Sky Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award, while Northern Arizona’s Parker Joens was tabbed the Big Sky Men’s Field Athlete of the Week.
Jaynes, a senior from Salt Lake City, Utah, finished first in both her individual events at the Utah/Weber State Spring Classic and put together solid results in each. Jaynes took first in the 400m hurdles by more than a second by finishing in a time of 59.28 seconds. Her mark put her in first on the Big Sky performance list and 36th currently in the nation. Jaynes also took first in the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.25, moving her up to third in the Big Sky.
Andersen, a senior from Vista, Calif., continued her strong start to the outdoor campaign as she posted a best mark of 69.99m (229-7) to place second in the women’s premiere hammer throw event at Arizona State University’s Sun Angel Classic at Sun Angel Stadium on Friday.
The only athlete to beat her in the event was NCAA record holder Maggie Ewn of ASU who broke the collegiate record with a 74.53-meter performance.
Andersen has not recorded a mark of less than 68.63m at a meet this outdoor season and already shattered the Northern Arizona and Big Sky record in the hammer with a toss of 70.98m (232-10) to open the season back on March 16.
Stahl, a senior from, Roseville, Calif., took first in the 800m with a time of 1:51.55 at the WAR XI. Stahl now ranks second in the Big Sky in the 800m this season.
Joens, a freshman from Kersey, Colo., had a solid weekend as he placed third in the men’s shot put (16.44m (53.11.25) and seventh in premiere discus event 52.50m (172-3) at Arizona State University’s Sun Angel Classic. He ranks fourth in the shot put and sits second in discus in the conference performance list.
