OGDEN, Utah (January 2, 2017) -- The women's soccer offseason has seen the addition of two new soccer coaches to the Big Sky Conference Ranks. Southern Utah announced the hiring of Fred Thompson and North Dakota welcomed Chris Logan this offseason.
Thompson comes to Southern Utah from the state of Washington where he served most recently as the director of coaching for the Thurston County United Soccer Club and as a scout for the Youth National Team in the northwest region of the United States.
Prior to Washington, Thompson spent a year coaching the Downtown Soccer Club in Las Vegas before serving at the helm of the Arsenal Soccer Club in Arizona from 2014-15.
Thompson was an assistant coach for the women’s soccer team at Army West Point from 2009-2011 and interim head coach for the 2012 season. During his tenure at West Point the team had a combined record of 41-28-11, making the NCAA tournament in 2011 for just the second time in program history.
Logan comes to UND after a year as the head coach at the University of Northern Iowa, where he helped guide the Panthers to their best season since 2003. Under his guidance in 2016, the Panthers also set numerous program records, including best conference regular-season finish, most conference points, most all-conference player awards, most home wins, and most goals scored.
Prior to taking the helm at UNI, he spent four seasons at North Dakota State, including the final three as associate head coach, where he helped the Bison to a Summit League regular-season title in 2015, and four consecutive Summit League tournament appearances.
