OGDEN, Utah (January, 18 2016) -- Eastern Washington sophomore Bogdan Bliznyuk posted the first triple-double in school history and the first in the Big Sky since 2013. Weber State and Montana sit atop the conferene standings with unbeaten conference marks.
Rebounds Record: Weber State’s Joel Bolomboy needs just seven rebounds to claim the top spot in the Big Sky career rebounds standings. The Weber State senior currently has 1,141 career rebounds, just shy of the career record held by former Idaho State standout Steve Hayes (1,147). Bolomboy is averaging 13.6 rebounds per game.
Top Four: The top four teams in the Big Sky standings at the end of the season receive first round byes in the 2016 Big Sky basketball championship.
Top Perfomances
Venky Jois (EWU) - Senior Venky Jois, had a huge weekend in Eastern’s sweep, scoring 45 points on 21-of-28 (75 percent) shooting from the field, with a total of 11 dunks. Jois also had 20 rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and a pair of steals. Eastern beat Southern Utah 106-80 and Northern Arizona 96-73 in a pair of romps that EWU led for a total of 73:22 and trailed for just 4:09 out of 80 minutes. He made 11-of-16 shots with six dunks against SUU, and also had 12 rebounds to record his fourth double-double of the season and 30th of his career. He made 10-of-12 shots from the field with five dunks, and added eight rebounds, two blocks and two steals versus NAU.
Joel Bolomboy (WSU) - Joel averaged 20.5 points and 12 rebounds per game while shooting 52.9 percent from the field in leading Weber State to two wins last week. He had 22 points and 13 rebounds in Thursday’s win at Portland State and followed that up with 19 points and 11 rebounds in the win at Sacramento State Saturday. He continues to lead the nation with 17 double-doubles in 18 games. He is second in the nation in rebounding at 13.6 per game. He also needs just three more rebounds to become Weber State’s career leader and seven more to become the Big Sky’s career leader.
Quinton Hooker (UND) - Averaged 17.5 ppg, 3.0 apg, 2.0 rpg and 2.0 spg in home split with Montana State and Montana.
Dallas Anglin (UNC) -Averaged 16 pts in a 1-1 weekend. Scored 12 against Montana and 20 against Montana State, his third 20 point outing in 12 games. Also dished out a career-best 6 assists and brought in 5 boards against MSU, also had 5 against UM. Shot 11-of-14 (78.5%) from the free-throw line including an 8-for-8 night against the Bobcats. Was 9-of-21 (42.8%) from the floor in the two games and played 66 minutes.
Ethan Telfair (ISU) - Telfair played 38.5 minutes a game and averaged 24 points a game and 6.5 rebounds. He was 14-16 from the foul line in the two games. He had 15 assists to only 7 turnovers. In the 73-70 win over Portland State Telfair had 25 points, six rebounds and 11 assists. He was 8-9 from the free throw line and 8-18 from the field. In the 82-71 loss at Sacramento State he had 23 points, seven rebounds and six steals
