OGDEN, Utah (December 14, 2015) – Rivalry wins highlighted last week’s Big Sky Conference men’s basketball schedule with Idaho defeating Washington State in the Battle of the Palouse on Thursday and Northern Colorado topping in-state rival Colorado State on Sunday.
This week’s games are highlighted with strong non-conference games. Eastern Washington faces Western Carolina today and Morehead State on Thursday while Northern Colorado stays home to face Denver on Wednesday. Weber State will look to snap a two-game losing streak at Portland on Friday. Northern Arizona takes on No. 13/12 Arizona Wednesday and Montana visits No. 2/5 Kansas on Saturday.
Outstanding Performers
Austin McBroom (EWU) - In games against teams from the Atlantic-10 and Atlantic Coast conferences, McBroom scored 47 points with six assists and six rebounds. He made 17-of-32 shots from the field in the two games, including 8-of-17 3-point attempts. He scored a collegiate-best 33 against Davidson before finishing with 14 at Pitt. His performance against Davidson included a 12-of-19 shooting night, and eclipsed his previous top game as an Eagle of 20 points (versus Pacific) and as a collegian of 26 points (for Saint Louis against Bradley on 11/29/14).
Quinton Hooker (UND) - Hooker scored a season-high 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting from the floor in a 69-67 loss to rival North Dakota State on Friday. Despite not practicing all week with a foot injury, Hooker willed his team to a 10-point halftime lead, scoring 18 points, including the final eight in the closing three minutes of the stanza. He finished 6-for-6 from the foul line, added four rebounds and two steals.
Tyler Hall (MSU) - Hall scored 24 points in MSU’s win at San Jose State Sunday, including his team’s first 11 when the home team threatened to take early control. Hall also added a game-high eight rebounds with three assists and just on turnover. On an afternoon when MSU struggled from the line - the rest of the team was 9-20 - Hall hit six of his eight charity tosses, including 5-of-6 in the game’s final 40 seconds to seal the win. Hall’s heroics boosted the Bobcats to a season sweep over Mountain West SJSU, and gave the team its second Division I road win of the young season.
Jordan Wilson (UNC) - Wilson combined for 18.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in two wins (91-58 York, 73-64 Colorado State). He shot 62.5% from the field (15-of-24) and 40.0% (4-of-10) from three point range.
The junior has now had 9 straight games of 10 points or more, including two games of 20 points throughout the stretch. He scored 16 points in the blowout win over York and 20 points in the win over Colorado State.
He made 11 of 20 points in the second half versus CSU, including three big buckets in the final five minutes of the game to keep UNC out in front and two clutch free throws with 60 seconds to go to all, but seal the victory, aiding in the first win over Colorado State since 2009-10 season and the first under B.J. Hill. He played a combined 65 minutes in the two contests (27 min vs York, 38 minutes vs CSU)
