Harvey, McKinney Share Men's Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah (Jan. 26, 2015) - Eastern Washington’s Tyler Harvey and Sacramento State’s Mikh McKinney have been selected as the co-Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Players of the Week.

McKinney, a 6-1, senior guard from Union City, Calif., averaged 28.5 points, six assists, two rebounds and a steal per game as the Hornets beat Idaho State and Weber State on the road. McKinney shot .621 percent from the floor, .615 from 3-point range, and .765 percent from the free-throw line. He committed just one turnover in 78 minutes of action.

McKinney opened with 24 points, five assists, three rebounds and a steal in the Hornets’ 62-59 win over Idaho State on Thursday. On Saturday, McKinney scored a career-high 33 points – 27 in the second half – with seven assists, no turnovers, a rebound and a block in Sacramento State’s 78-71 win over Weber State. McKinney was 5-of-5 from 3-point range in the second half. He made 8-of-10 free throws, and was 10-of-16 from the field. It marked just the second time Sacramento State has beaten Weber State in Ogden. McKinney scored 41 of his 57 points in the second half of the two games.

Harvey, a 6-foot-4, junior guard from Torrence, Calif., averaged 30.5 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and one steal per game as the Eagles beat Northern Colorado and North Dakota. Harvey shot .593 percent from the floor, .467 percent from 3-point range, and .880 from the free-throw line.

Harvey opened with a 35-point game in the Eagles’ 95-85 win over Northern Colorado on Thursday. Harvey was 9-of-15 from the floor, 5-of-9 from 3-point range, and 12-of-14 from the free-throw line. In Saturday’s 102-80 win over North Dakota, Harvey scored 26 points with five rebounds and five assists. He made 7-of-12 shots from the floor and was 10-of-11 from the free-throw line.

McKinney and Harvey were both named to the Lou Henson Mid-Season Award Watch List by CollegeInsider.com last week.  The Henson Award goes to the top “Mid-Major” Division I player at the end of the season.

McKinney has now won five Big Sky Player of the Week honors in his career, including three times this season. Harvey has also won three this season and five in his career.
