Week 3 Volleyball Notes

OGDEN, Utah (September 15, 2014) – The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona continued their unbeaten streak by rolling through three straight wins over the weekend. Idaho’s Alyssa Schultz earned a Player of the Week nod and Portland State gears up for an in-state battle with Oregon tonight.

Sydney Kemper, NAU - Kemper was named the Tournament MVP of the Lumberjack Classic, leading the Lumberjacks to a third consecutive per-fect weekend to begin the 2014 season. Kemper led NAU in kills and blocks and was third in digs during NAU’s home-opening weekend, with wins over Grand Canyon, UC Riverside and Albany dropping just one set in three matches. She averaged 3.60 kills, 3.00 digs and 1.40 blocks per set and com-piled a .315 hit percentage as the Lumberjacks improved to 9-0 for just the third time in school history – and remains the lone unbeaten team in the Big Sky. She also picked up her third All-Tournament honor in as many tourna-ments this season.

Michelle Robinson, Montana - Robinson was named to her third all-tourna-ment team in three weekends at the West Virginia Mountaineer Invitational. In four matches last week, Robinson averaged a team-high 2.67 kills on .237 hitting. She also added a team-high four service aces and 13 blocks (0.87/s).

Allie Schumacher, Eastern Washington - Schumacher had a pair of impres-sive performances for the Eagles this past weekend at the Idaho Nike Invita-tional in Moscow, Idaho. She recorded her third double-double of the season against Portland on Friday, finishing with 15 kills and 11 digs while hitting .361 (15-2-36). She added two blocks and a service ace to her impressive stat line. Against Boise State on Saturday, she led Eastern with 14 kills, hitting .323
(14-4-31). She’s currently leading EWU with an average of 3.03 kills per set while hitting .274 on the season.
