OGDEN, Utah (February 11, 2014) - The Big Sky Conference has selected the tennis Players of the Week for matches played between February 4 - 10. North Dakota’s Callie Ronkowski is the women’s Player of the Week. Northern Colorado’s Mitchel Knight is the men’s Player of the Week.
Callie Ronkowski, a junior from Grand Forks, N.D., went 3-0 over the weekend in No. 2 singles play, and 2-1 in doubles play.
On Friday, she won her first singles match of the weekend against Jiek Stroobant of Northern Iowa in three sets (5-7, 6-3, 1-0), before dropping the doubles match 6-0. On Saturday, she finished the day unbeaten, defeating her singles opponents from Creighton (6-3, 6-2) and Western Illinois (6-0, 6-0).
In doubles action on Saturday, Ronkowski and her partner Faith Lee, won both of their doubles matches against Creighton (6-0) and Western Illinois (6-2).
Mitchel Knight, a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla., finished the weekend 2-0 in singles and doubles.
Knight first took the No. 2 spot against Colorado Mesa in two sets 6-4, 6-3 and also won the No. 2 doubles spot with teammate Jacob Sheldon 8-4. Knight then followed up with a conference win over North Dakota in No. 1 singles 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 and in the No. 2 doubles spot 8-4.
