Big Sky Conference Names Athletes Of The Week

OGDEN, Utah (February 11, 2014) – The Big Sky Conference has selected the men’s and women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Montana State’s Distance Medley Relay and Sacramento State’s Kristen Robinson were named men’s and women’s track AOTW, while SAC’s Zach Coniglio and Southern Utah’s Kayla Kovar were named men’s and women’s field AOTW.
 
The Distance Medley Relay (Michael Asay, Marcus Swan, Matthew Tex, Jacob Kirk) won the race with an altitude adjusted time of 9:45.60, more than 30 seconds ahead of second place, which ranks them first in the Big Sky and 23rd in the nation. Their time marks the third fastest time in program history.
 
Kristen Robinson, a freshman from Oakland, Calif., continues to shine in her first season with the team by winning the 60-hurdles at the Air Force Team Challenge on Friday. The freshman began her day by running 8.54 in the qualifying round before lowering her time to 8.49 which won the meet by .01 seconds. Her time places her fourth in school history. When adjusted for altitude, Robinson’s time is the third fastest in the Big Sky this year.
 
Zach Coniglio, a junior from Martinez, Calif., recorded the top mark in the shot put at the Air Force Team Challenge on Friday in USAFA, Colo. The junior had a put of 60-feet, 1-inch (18.31m) which was the best in the competition by 28 inches. Coniglio has won both of his meets this season and remains the Big Sky Conference leader.
 
Kayla Kovar, a senior from Ridgecrest, Calif., ranks fourth in the shot put in NCAA Division I after a first-place mark of 55-10.25 (17.02 meters) at Northern Arizona. She also set a new all-time record for Southern Utah, improving her previous record by more than two feet. Kovar also finished third with a mark of 61-0.75 (18.61 meters) in the weight throw.
