OGDEN, Utah (September 3, 2013) – With week two of the 2013 season in the books, Northern Arizona tops the Big Sky standings with a 3-0-1 record.
On Friday, Northern Arizona beat Cal State Bakersfield 1-0 with the lone goal coming from Cierra Gamble in the 64th minute. On Sunday, the Lumberjacks faced UC Riverside and played them to a 1-1 tie. UC Riverside scored a goal in the 21st minute with NAU’s Savannah Berry finding the equalizer in the 63rd minute. Northern Arizona remains unbeaten with a 3-0-1 record.
Portland State faced UNLV and New Mexico State in the UNLV Tournament. On Friday, PSU lost 5-0 to UNLV. On Sunday, Portland State defeated New Mexico State 7-0. PSU’s Eryn Brown recorded a hat-trick and added two assists for a total of eight points. Brown’s eight points set a Portland State single-game record and is ranked No. 2 all-time in Big Sky history.
Last week, Southern Utah went 2-1 against UC Santa Barbara, Vermont and Appalachian State. On Wednesday, SUU defeated UCSB 4-3. SUU held a 3-0 lead until the 61st minute. UCSB then went on to score three goals to tie the match with less than seven minutes on the clock. SUU’s Kirsten Anthony scored the game-winning goal in the 88th minute. On Friday, SUU defeated Vermont 3-1. After being down 1-0, SUU’s Breanna and Brianne Brown scored three unanswered goals to give the Tbirds the 3-1 win. On Sunday, SUU lost to Appalachian State 2-1. SUU’s Aurora Moberly scored in the 70th minute.
On Thursday, Weber State faced Utah Valley. UVU was the first on the board after a goal in the 11th minute. WSU’s Alyssa Amano found the equalizer in the 49th minute which took the game into overtime. In the 104th minute, WSU’s Mackenzie Day scored the game winning goal to give the Wildcats the 2-1 2OT win over Utah Valley.
On Friday, Northern Colorado defeated Nebraska-Omaha 4-0 with two goals from Essence Lanier-Ortiz, and one goal from Danielle Birdsall and Shanlie Anderson. On Sunday, UNC lost to Creighton 4-1. UNC’s lone goal came from Rebecca Lancia in the 57th minute.
Sacramento State went 1-1 over the weekend with a win against Cal State Bakersfield and a loss to Cal Poly. On Friday, Sacramento State lost 4-0 to Cal Poly. On Sunday, the Hornets beat CSUB 3-1. SAC’s Kassidy Kellogg scored in the 19th minute, followed by Alyssa Anderson’s two goals in the 54th and 72nd minutes.
On Friday, Eastern Washington faced Nevada and Washington State. The Eagles lost 2-0 to Nevada and lost 1-0 to Washington State.
Over the weekend, Montana faced Loyola Marymount and Cal State Fullerton. On Friday, the Griz lost 2-1 to LMU, with UM’s Ashley Robertson scoring in the 62nd minute. On Sunday, Montana lost to CSUF 2-0.
Idaho State faced Texas Tech in its only match of the week. The Bengals lost 3-0. North Dakota lost 6-0 to Creighton and lost 2-0 to Nebraska-Omaha.
