Last Week’s Release…
OGDEN, Utah (April 1, 2013) – After two weeks of Big Sky conference softball, Portland State tops the standings with a 5-1 conference record.
 
Over the weekend, Portland State swept the three-game series over Weber State. In the first game on Friday, the game was tied 2-2 until the top of the fifth when the Vikings scored three runs to get the 5-2 win over WSU.  In the second game, Portland State defeated Weber State 10-3.  On Saturday, the Vikings scored in all but one inning, in a 9-2 win over the Wildcats and gave the Vikings the 3-0 series win over WSU.  Weber State also faced Great Falls in a doubleheader earlier in the week.  The Wildcats won 7-0 and 12-4 in six innings.
 
On Friday, Southern Utah split the doubleheader with Idaho State.  The Thunderbirds defeated the Bengals 6-4 in the first game, and ISU defeated SUU 15-5 in five innings in the second game.  In the first game, Southern Utah overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat Idaho State 6-4.  SUU scored five runs in the fifth inning and added one more in the sixth to get the 6-4 win over Idaho State.  On Saturday, Southern Utah held a 6-3 lead over Idaho State going into the top of the sixth inning.  ISU scored three runs in the sixth to tie the game up at 6-6.  The Bengals went ahead 7-6 in the top of the seventh inning.  SUU tied the game up in the top of the bottom of the seventh after a solo home run from Madison Resley.  SUU added another run in the bottom of the seventh to take the 8-7 win and the 2-1 series win over Idaho State.  Southern Utah also faced Boise State in a doubleheader earlier in the week.  SUU lost 5-3 and 12-1 in five innings.
 
.On Friday, Northern Colorado defeated North Dakota 8-0 in five innings and 5-2. In the second game of the doubleheader, North Dakota scored first with two runs in the top of the third.  NC scored five unanswered runs to give the Bears the 5-2 win over North Dakota.  On Saturday, North Dakota overcame a 3-0 deficit to defeat the Bears 6-4. Northern Colorado won the series against North Dakota 2-1.
 
Sacramento State played two games against San Jose State and lost 8-2 and 5-2.  The Hornets also faced No. 5 California and lost 1-0 with the only run of the game coming in the fifth inning.
