UM's Jamar, NC's Barden Share Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah (Dec 30, 2013) - Northern Colorado’s Derrick Barden and Montana’s Kareem Jamar have been selected as the co-Big Sky Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, Dec. 23, through Sunday, Dec. 29.

Barden, a 6-foot-5 senior forward from Detroit, Mich., scored 18 points with 14 rebounds as the Bears opened conference play with an 84-66 conference home win over North Dakota on Dec. 29. Barden made 7-of-11 shots from the floor, and was 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. It was Barden’s third double-double of the season. Barden leads the Big Sky in rebounding with an average of 9.2 per game. Barden has been named Big Sky Player of the Week twice this season and three times in his career.

Jamar, a 6-5, senior forward/guard from Venice, Calif., scored 26 points with eight rebounds, three assists and a block in Montana’s 72-71 non-conference win at Idaho on Dec. 28. Jamar made two free throws with 4.1 seconds remaining to lift UM to the win. The Grizzlies trailed by as many as 15 points late in the first half. Jamar went 11-of-12 from the free-throw line, making his final 11, including eight in the second half. Jamar made 7-of-10 shots from the floor, and was 1-of-3 from 3-point range. The reigning Big Sky MVP has been named Player of the Week twice this season and six times in his career.
