OGDEN, Utah (November 5, 2013) – With the final women’s soccer matches of the 2013 regular season done, the Big Sky Championship starts Thursday at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Ore. The tournament is hosted by the regular season champion Portland State.
The first semifinal of the 2013 Big Sky Championship is between No. 2 Northern Arizona and No. 3 Weber State. These two teams met in the second week of the conference season with Weber State victorious. The Wildcats beat the Lumberjacks 2-1. Abbey Kennedy and Chansi Crompton scored for WSU and Emily Wadell scored for NAU. This semifinal match will be played on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 12 p.m. Pacific.
The second semifinal will feature the host and No. 1 seed Portland State against No. 4 Northern Colorado. These two teams met the very first day of the conference season with the Vikings coming out on top 3-1. PSU’s goal scorers in that match were Abbey Bergquist, Eryn Brown and Ariana Cooley. Essence Ortiz-Lanier scored the only goal of the match for the Bears. This semifinal match will be played on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 3 p.m. Pacific.
The championship match is set for Saturday, November 9 at 3:30 p.m. This match will feature the winner of both semifinal matches. The winner of the Big Sky Conference receives an automatic bid to play in the NCAA College Cup. Seeding and matches will be announced on Monday, Nov. 11 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Eastern on NCAA.com.
