The second week of the conference season starts with five matches on Friday…Portland State, which is undefeated in the Big Sky, will travel to Eastern Washington…Weber State is also undefeated in the Big Sky and will travel to Southern Utah…North Dakota is looking for its first ever Big Sky Conference win as it hosts Northern Colorado…Sacramento State is at Montana, and Idaho State is at Northern Arizona…Eight teams are back in action on Sunday…Sacramento State is at Eastern Washington, Portland State is at Montana, Weber State is at Northern Arizona, and Idaho State is at Southern Utah…Both of NAU’s matches will be broadcast on FCS Pacific and FS San Diego…All other matches will feature live stats.

OGDEN, Utah (October 1, 2013) – With the first week of conference soccer in the books, Weber State and Portland State top the Big Sky standings with 2-0 records.
On Thursday, Weber State defeated Montana 2-0. Weber State’s Mackenzie Harrison scored the first goal of the match in the 43rd minute. Shaylee Petersen scored the second goal for the Wildcats in the 71st minute to give WSU the 2-0 win. On Saturday, Weber State defeated Eastern Washington 3-0. WSU’s goals came from Harrison, Ryley Hansen and Mackenzie Day.
On Friday, Portland State defeated Northern Colorado 3-1. PSU’s Abbey Bergquist scored in the 14th minute to start off the scoring. PSU’s Eryn brown scored the second goal of the match in the 30th minute. NC’s Essence Ortiz-Lanier converted on a penalty kick in the opening minute of the second half to cut the Vikings’ lead in half. PSU’s Ariana Cooley scored in the 60th minute to seal the win for the Vikings. On Sunday, PSU defeated North Dakota 1-0. PSU’s Torie Morris scored the only goal of the match in the 3rd minute.
Northern Arizona starts out the conference season 1-0 after defeating Southern Utah 3-2 in double overtime. SUU’s Sabrina Hernandez was the first to score with a goal in the 53rd minute. NAU’s Haley Wingender scored the equalizer less than 30 seconds later. SUU’s Nancy Brich scored in the 63rd minute for SUU to regain the lead. NAU’s Lindsay Doyle tied it up again with a goal in the 66th minute, to send the game into overtime. In the 108th minute, NAU’s Nicole Sherwin scored the game-winning goal from 40-yards out to give NAU the 3-2 double overtime win.
Idaho State starts out the conference season 1-0-1. On Thursday, the reigning Big Sky champions scored in the 58th minute to give ISU the 1-0 win over Eastern Washington. ISU’s Whitney Peterson scored her first goal of the season in the win. On Saturday, the Bengals and Montana played to a 1-1 draw. UM’s Maddey Frey scored the first goal of the match in the 61st minute. ISU’s Peterson found the equalizer in the 76th minute. After 20 minutes of overtime, neither team scored, resulting in the 1-1 double overtime draw.
Sacramento State also starts the conference season with a 1-0-1 record. On Friday, SAC defeated North Dakota 1-0. SAC’s Jennifer Lum scored the only goal of the match in the 29th minute to give the Hornets the win. On Sunday, Northern Colorado and Sacramento State played to a 0-0 tie. SAC’s Alyssa Anderson had a game-high three shots.
Northern Arizona, Portland State and Weber State are the only undefeated teams, after the first weekend of conference play.
