The 2012 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will open Wednesday in Bozeman, Mont., with the combined events. The regular portion of the meet will begin on Friday. Catch the action on Big Sky TV. Sacramento State is the returning champion for both the men and women.

The decathlon will begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday with the 100 meters, while the heptathlon will start at 1:45 p.m. with the 100-meter hurdles. The combined events will conclude on Thursday with the decathlon starting at noon and the heptathlon beginning at 12:45 p.m.
The decathlon championship record is held by Montana State alum Stevie Keller, who scored 7,477 points in 1999, while Boise State alum Crystal Young holds the heptathlon record with 5,741 points, set in 1988.
Montana State athletics rank one and two in the decathlon coming into the meet. Jeff Mohl leads the way with 7,528 points, while teammate Asa Staven ranks second with 7,355 points. Mohl finished second at least season’s championships, while Staven was fourth.
Idaho State is ranked three through five going into the championships. Christoph Lange is third with 6,797 points, while teammates Logan Henderson is fourth with 6,790 and Justin Crister is fifth with 6,776.
In the heptathlon, Sacramento State’s Baiba Celma is ranked first with 5,174 points. Montana State is second and third. Carley McCutchen has 4,808 points, while teammate Sarah McGree is third with 4,756 points. Celma finished third at the indoor championships this season, while McGree finished fifth and was sixth at last year’s outdoor championships.
Sitting in fourth going into the championships is Samantha Berryman from Idaho State with 4,745 points. She finished seventh at last season’s championships and was fourth at the indoor championships this season. Mandy Keifer of Portland State is ranked fifth with 4,630 points.
