Big Sky Conference Names Athletes Of The Week

OGDEN, Utah (May 1, 2012) – The Big Sky Conference has selected the men’s and women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Weber State’s Amber Henry and Tyler McBee swept the women’s and men’s track AOTW, while Eastern Washington’s Keisa Monterola and Portland State’s Sean Mackelvie were named women’s and men’s field AOTW.
Amber Henry, from Mountain View, Wyo., improved her time in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Payton Jordan Invitational hosted by Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif. Henry finished with a career-best time of 9:53.94 to finish as the third collegiate finisher in a race that included several of the top collegiate and professional runners. The time ranks as the second best in Weber State history and is the third best in Big Sky Conference history. It is also the fifth-best time in the nation this season and is an automatic qualifying time for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
The Venezuelan pole vaulter, Keisa Monterola, broke EWU’s school record, the Roos Field record and the Pelluer Invitational record with a jump of 14-0 at the 41st Annual Pelluer Invitational in Cheney, Wash. Monterola, from Caracas, Venezuela, just missed the Big Sky Conference record of 14-2 1/2 set in 2007 by Montana State’s alum Elouise Rudy. Monterola’s mark ranks tied for 10th in the nation and tied for seventh in the West Region.
Competing in his first meet of the season, Tyler McBee, from Beaverton, Ore., finished second in the 400-meter hurdles at the BYU Robision Invitational in Provo, Utah. He posted a time of 52.41 in the event, which is the fastest time in the Big Sky this season. He also finished third in the men’s 110 meter hurdles. He posted a seasonal-best time of 14.56 in the trials of the event, which currently ranks as the fifth fastest in the Big Sky.
Sean Mackelvie, from Wilsonville, Ore., recorded a season-best throw in the men’s javelin with a distance of 218-02 (66.49m), which is best in the Big Sky Conference this season and is 22nd overall on the NCAA Division I West Outdoor Qualifier List. He has improved his season-best mark every time out this season.
