Big Sky Conference Names Athletes Of The Week

OGDEN, Utah (April 17, 2012) – The Big Sky Conference has selected the men’s and women’s Track and Field Athletes of the Week. Sacramento State’s Renisha Robinson and Montana State’s Chris Wilson were named women’s and men’s track AOTW, while Montana State’s Emily Tyrrell and David Phillips swept the women’s and men’s field AOTW.
Renisha Robinson, San Jose, Calif., recorded the fastest time by a collegiate athlete in the event, running 2:07.03. The time was just off her career best. She remains the conference leader with a best of 2:06.42, which ranks 24th in NCAA. This is Robinson’s second AOTW award this season.
Emily Tyrrell, from Grand Forks, N.D., won the javelin at the Utah Spring Classic with a season best throw of 49.91m (163-09.00). Tyrrell currently leads the Big Sky Conference and is ranked 17th in the NCAA Division I. She has not placed lower than first in the javelin in 2012. This is Tyrrell’s second AOTW award this season
Chris Wilson, from Great Falls, Mont., earned four medals at the Innovation Meet. On Friday at the Utah Spring Classic, he set a new school record in the 100 with a time of 10.39, shattering the previous record of 10.62, set back in 2006. He placed second in the event. He then went on to anchor the winning 4x100 relay that also set a new Bobcat record with a time of 41.00. Wilson closed out the competition on Friday with a second place finish in the 200 with a time of 21.21, just missing a new record due to wind advantage. At the Wildcat Outdoor Open on Saturday, he won the 100 again, in 10.94. He is currently ranked 45th in NCAA Division I in the 100.
David Phillips, from Deer Lodge, Mont., earned three medals over the weekend at the Innovation Meet. On Friday, at the Utah Spring Classic, he won the hammer throw with a distance of 62.52m (205-01.50) and placed second in the shot put with 16.56m (54-04.00). On Saturday, he turned around and picked up a third-place finish in the shot put, as well. His performance on Friday marked two new season bests for the senior thrower. Phillips ranks 22nd in the nation in the hammer throw.
