Eastern Washington, Montana, Northern Colorado and Portland State won games Saturday afternoon in Big Sky women’s basketball action. 

It was a nail bitter all game in Bozeman, Mont. With 2:07 left in the game, Montana (6-3 in BSC) had a one-point lead until a 3-pointer by Alyssa Smith. But a Ashley Albert jumper cut the lead to two with 1:28 left. MSU (7-4 BSC) would score its last points with 43 seconds left in the game. UM hit four free throws in the end to seal a 61-54 win.

UM was led by Katie Baker, who had 19 points, Alyssa Smith added 11 points and led on the boards with eight and Torry Hill recorded 10 points. MSU was led by Ashley Albert, who had 19 points and led on the boards with 11. Rachel Semansky added 13 points.

The Lady Griz shot 37 percent from the field to the Bobcats’ 31 percent. UM had 48 rebounds to MSU’s 43.

Eastern Washington (9-2 in league play) defeated Sacramento State (3-8 in conference play) 89-84. EWU was led by Brianne Ryan, who had 26 points. Chene Cooper added 19 points and had seven assists. Carrie Ojeda had a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds and Aubrey Ashenfelter recorded 13 points. SAC was led by Alle Moreno, who had 21 points, Emily Christensen added 20 points and Kylie Kuhns recorded 14 points and led on the boards with 14.

The largest lead for the Eagles was nine points with 16:53 left in the first half. EWU shot 42.3 percent from the field to SAC’s 42.5 percent. EWU out rebounded SAC 51-44. The Eagles shot 83 percent from the free throw line on 20-of-24 shots.

Portland State (5-5 in league play) defeated Northern Arizona (2-9 in conference play) 73-59. PSU was led by Kate Lanz, who had 17 points and led on boards with seven. Eryn Jones added 16 points, Shauneice Samms recorded 12 points and Courtney VanBrocklin had 10. NAU was led by Amy Patton, who had 24 points and Amanda Frost added 14 points. Khyra Conerly added five rebounds. PSU shot 55 percent from the field to NAU’s 44 percent.

Northern Colorado (6-4 in BSC) defeated Weber State (0-10 in conference play) 70-57. NC was led by Lauren Oosdyke, who had 17 points, Kaisha Brown added 15 points and D’shara Strange recorded a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds. WSU was led by Megan Patterson, who had 17 points and Caela Mohre added 15 points. Patterson led on the boards with seven. NC shot 54 percent from the field to WSU’s 40 percent.

Women’s basketball is back in action on Monday as Montana travels to Idaho State. Tip off is set for 7:05 p.m. MST and can be seen on Big Sky TV.
