OGDEN, Utah (Nov. 13, 2012) - Eastern Washington’s Martin Seiferth has been selected as the first Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week for the 2012-13 season.

Seiferth, a 6-foot-10, sophomore forward from Berlin, Germany, scored 27 points with 17 rebounds and a school-record seven blocks in the Eagles’ 96-79 loss to Cal State Northridge on Monday night.

The Oregon transfe,r who sat out last season, netted 13 points with eight rebounds and four blocks in the first half, and tallied 14 points with nine rebounds and three blocks in the second half. EWU trailed by four at the half and two points early in the second half before Northridge went on a 20-6 run.

The seven blocked shots broke the school record that stood for more than 25 years. Dexter Griffen had six blocked shots during a 1987 game against Idaho State.

In two games, Seiferth averaged 14.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game with one steal. He shot .563 percent from the floor, and 64.7 percent from the 3-point line. He had 11 total offensive rebounds.

“Martin played outstanding,’’ said Eastern Washington coach Jim Hayford. “That has to be an outstanding confidence builder for him. If we can get that kind of play from inside, that is something we can really build on.’’
