Sacramento State Sweeps Big Sky Championships
Final Results
Sacramento State swept the 2011 Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Pocatello, Idaho.
The men won by the closest margin in Big Sky history, 0.50 points ahead of second-place Northern Arizona. The women won by 50 points with Idaho State coming in second. This is the third victory for the Sacramento State men and the second-consecutive, third overall win for the women.
In team scoring, the Sacramento State women won with 144 points. They were followed by Idaho State (94), Montana (89.50), Weber State (81), Northern Arizona (68.50), Montana State (67), Portland State (54.50), Eastern Washington (45.50) and Northern Colorado (19).
The Hornet men won with 133 points followed by Northern Arizona with 132.50 points. Following NAU was Montana State (95.50), Weber State (76), Eastern Washington (67), Idaho State (62), Montana (53), Northern Colorado (22) and Portland State (19).
The men’s most valuable athlete and outstanding performer was swept by Sacramento State senior Ronald Brookins. The women’s most outstanding performer also went to the Hornets’ Lea Wallace. The women’s most valuable athlete went to Montana’s Lindsey Hall.
The top three athletes in each each event earn All-Conference Honors.
On the women's side, in the 60-meter dash, Geronne Black of Portland State won the event with a time of 7.43, second place was Camille Marchand of Montana State with a time of 7.57 and third place was Alicia Truesdale of Sacramento State with a time of 7.66.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Sacramento State finished first and second. Alicia Truesdale had a time of 8.44 and Sakya Bolton was second with a time of 8.56. Montana’s Lindsey Hall finished third with a time of 8.62.
In the 400 meters, Idaho State’s Kylee Gleason won the event with a time of 55.29. Second place was Amanda Alston of Weber State had a time of 55.75 and WSU’s Camille Lott was third with a time of 56.28. In the 800 meters, Lea Wallace of Sacramento won the event with a time of 2:07.35 and Renisha Robinson of SAC was second with a time of 2:09.54. Cloe Palakovich of Idaho State was third with a time of 2:13.04.
In the mile, Lea Wallace of Sacramento State won the event with a time of 4:48.19. She was followed by Katrina Drennen of Montana who had a time of 4:49.31 and Weber State’s Amber Henry had a time of 4:51.59. In the triple jump, Amber Anderson of Northern Arizona won the event with a jump of 41-0 1/4, Sacramento State took second and third. Natalia Wright had a jump of 40-7 3/4 to finish second and Nicole McGlory was third with a jump of 39-11 1/2.
In the high jump, Lindsey Hall of Montana won the event with a jump of 5-7 3/4. Both second and third place had a mark of 5-5 3/4 by Montana State Jessica Greany for second place and Naima Goodwin of Sacramento State for third place.
In the shot put, Andrea Behring of Sacramento State won the event with a throw of 50-3 1/2, second place was Eastern Washington’s Erica Chaney with a mark of 47-9 1/4 and Arshiya Hoseyni of Northern Arizona was third with a mark of 45-10 3/4.
On the men's side, in the 60-meter dash, Sacramento State took first and second with Andy White winning the even with a time of 6.70 and Ronald Brookins was second with a time of 6.82. Third place was Chris Struckman of Weber State with a time of 6.83.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Ronald Brookins of Sacramento State won the event and broke the BSC Indoor Championship time with a time of 7.79. Brookins broke the previous record of 8.01 set in 1999 by Daryl Wonsey of Northern Arizona. Montana State’s Slater Powell finished second at the conference championships with a time of 8.11 and Jonevan DiSimone of Weber State was third with a time of 8.16.
In the 200 meters, Evan Taylor of Northern Colorado won the event with a time of 22.41, second place was Matt White of Weber State with a time of 21.51 and Adel al Nasser of Northern Arizona was third with a time of 21.98.
In the 400 meters, Brad Wall of Eastern Washington won the event with a time of 47.58, Adel al Nasser of Northern Arizona was second with a time of 47.59 and Sacramento State’s Vance Anderson was third with a time of 48.98. In the 800 meters, Idaho State’s Eric Strand won the event with a time of 1:50.74, second place was Nathaniel Litwiller of Sacramento State with a time of 1:51.03 and Portland State’s tony Crisofulli was third with a time of 1:51.26.
In the mile, Montana State’s Patrick Casey won the event with a time of 4:10.23. Diego Estrada of Northern Arizona was second with a time of 4:10.64 and Weber State’s John Coyle was third with a time of 4:11.49.
Sam Pierson of Idaho State set a new BSC Indoor Championship record in the heptathlon. Pierson won the event with 5,456 points the old record was set in 2006 by Wiley King of Weber State with 5,319 points.
In the triple jump, Sacramento State took first and second with Emilio Hernandez winning the even with a jump of 48-9 1/2 and Greg Mayo was second with a jump of 47-9 1/4. Third place was Andre Moore of Eastern Washington with a jump of 47-7.
In the pole vault, Idaho State took first-third place. In order Michael Arnold won the event by tying with three other previous championship records with a vault of 17-4 1/2. Sam Pierson was second with a jump of 17-0 3/4 and Clint Gossack had a mark of 16-4 3/4.
In the weight throw, David Phillips of Montana State won the event with a throw of 65-4 3/4, Pascal Tang of Northern Arizona was second with a mark of 64-10 3/4 and Zach Perry of Weber State was third with a throw of 59-6 3/4.
