OGDEN, UTAH (Nov. 7, 2011) - The Big Sky Conference has announced its football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Nov. 5. Northern Arizona running back Zach Bauman is the Offensive Player of the Week. Montana State defensive end Brad Daly and Portland State defensive back DeShawn Shead are the co-Defensive Players of the Week. Montana kicker/punter Brody McKnight is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bauman, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound sophomore from Chandler, Ariz., tallied 250 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns in Northern Arizona’s 34-14 win over Northern Colorado. Bauman rushed 28 times for 124 yards, scoring on runs of 4 and 5 yards. He also had his first career 100-yard receiving game with 126 yards on five catches, including a 44-yard scoring reception. Bauman became the first Big Sky player in four years to have 100 receiving and 100 rushing yards in the same game. This is Bauman’s first career Player of the Week honor.
Daly, a 6-1, 232-pound sophomore from Helena, Mont., tallies even tackles, 2.5 sacks, and forced two fumbles in No. 2 Montana State’s 44-24 victory over Weber State. Daly had all of his sacks and forced fumbles in the second half, which the Bobcats outscored Weber State 24-0 and limited the Wildcats to just 102 yards of total offense. Daly leads the Big Sky with 10 sacks. This is Daly’s second Player of the Week honor this season.
Shead, a 6-2, 210-pound senior from Palmdale, Calif., recorded eight solo tackles, a sack, an interception, and a pass breakup in Portland State’s 29-20 win over Sacramento State. Shead intercepted Sacramento State quarterback Jeff Fleming with 1:14 remaining in the game to preserve the Vikings’ victory. Shead also had 123 kick return yards, including a 79-yarder. This is Shead’s first career Player of the Week Honor.
McKnight, a 6-foot, 204-pound senior from Vancouver, B.C., set a school record with six field goals in Montana’s 32-7 victory over Western Oregon. McKnight made field goals from 24, 21, 51, 30, 36 and 24 yards without a miss. He became the first Big Sky kicker since 1988 to make six field goals in a game. McKnight also made two extra points to finish with 20 points. McKnight also punted five times, averaging 41.2 yards per punt with a long of 54 and two inside the 20-yard line. McKnight has been named Special Teams player of the Week three times this season and sixth of his career.
