OGDEN, Utah (Nov. 22, 2011) – Eastern Washington’s Brianne Ryan has been named the Big Sky Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the games played the week of Nov. 14 through Nov. 20. This is Ryan’s first POTW honors.
Ryan, a senior from Lynden, Wash., had a remarkable performance on both ends of the floor to lead Eastern to a 68-57 victory over San Diego on Thursday (Nov. 17). Her all-around effort was highlighted by 30 points on 10-of-21 shooting from the floor, which included three 3-pointers.
She scored nearly half Eastern’s total points in the game to become the first player in the Big Sky this season to reach the 30-point scoring mark. Ryan’s effort on Thursday was just three points shy of her career-high of 33, which she set last year against Sacramento State on 14-of-18 shooting. In addition to her offensive contributions against USD, Ryan also led all players on the glass with nine rebounds. She also had three assists, one steal and one block. She played a game-high 38 minutes against the Toreros.
Head Coach Wendy Schuller had this to say about Ryan’s performance, “Brianne played a great overall game. She’s a workhorse. You see part of it in the box score with her 30 points and nine rebounds, but Brianne is also our best defender in terms of one-on-one defense. The girl she was guarding tonight didn’t do much. Brianne is a player who will just go and go and go. She did a really nice job for us.”
Others Nominated: Jessa Jeppesen, Idaho State; Katie Baker, Montana; Rachel Semansky, Montana State; Amy Patton, Northern Arizona; Lauren Oosdyke, Northern Colorado, Karley Lampman, Portland State and Kylie Kuhns, Sacramento State
