OGDEN, UTAH (Nov. 14, 2011) - The Big Sky Conference has selected its football Players of the Week for games played on Saturday, Nov. 12. Weber State running back C.J. Tuckett and Eastern Washington quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell are the Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Sacramento State defensive end Zack Nash is the Defensive Player of the Week. Portland State kicker Zach Brown is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Tuckett, a 5-foot-10, 200-pound junior from Malta, Idaho, set a school record with 407 all-purpose yards in Weber State’s 34-31 win over Northern Arizona. Tuckett rushed for a career-high 254 yards on 27 attempts and scored on runs of 16, 45 and 1 yards. He had 144 kick return yards on four returns, and also caught two passes for nine yards. The 407 all-purpose yards were the second-most in Big Sky history. This is Tuckett’s first career Player of the Week honor.
Mitchell, a 6-2, 210-pound senior from Katy, Texas, completed 34-of-50 passes for 436 yards with five touchdowns and one interception in Eastern Washington’s 53-51 triple-overtime road win over Cal Poly. He hit Greg Herd on a 25-yard touchdown in the third overtime, and then ran in a 2-point conversion. Mitchell threw TD passes of 30, 15, 2, 22 and 25 yards to five different receivers. The Walter Payton Award Candidate has been named Player of the Week three times this season.
Nash, a 6-4, 260-pound senior from Vacaville, Calif., tied his own Big Sky single-game record with five sacks in Sacramento State’s 24-9 win over Idaho State. Nash recorded eight total tackles – six for loss, and forced a fumble. The six tackles tied his own school record. Nash also had five sacks and six tackles for loss last season against Idaho State. Nash led a Hornet defense that held Idaho State to three field goals and just 200 yards of total offense. Nash was named the National Defensive Player of the Week by The Sports Network and a National All-Star by the College Sporting News. This is Nash’s second career Player of the Week award.
Brown, a 6-1, 200-pound junior from Keizer, Ore., kicked field goals of 30, 46 and 51 yards in Portland State’s 23-17 road victory over Northern Colorado. Brown’s 51-yard field goal in the third quarter put the Vikings up 10-7. He also made two extra points to finish with 11 points. Brown now had 20 field goals this season and is tied for the national lead in field goals per game. Brown has made 56 field goals in his career, including six from at least 50 yards. This is Brown’s sixth career Player of the Week honor.
