Big Sky Cross Country Notes - Sept. 8

OGDEN, Utah (Sept. 8) - Big Sky Cross Country kicks off with six teams in action. The Idaho State women’s cross country team finished first in the ISU Season Opener Saturday against Southern Utah. The men's cross country team finished first, Erica Richardson posted the fastest finish time for the Bengals completing the 3K course in a time of 10:21.
The Portland State cross country teams kicked off their seasons at the Pre’s Trail Pre-View. Junior John Lawrence placed sixth overall with a time of 23:10 in the iconic 6800m course through Alton Baker Park In Eugene, Ore.
The Northern Colorado men and women finished fourth and the at the Wyoming Invitational on Saturday. Junior Megan Horsch paced the Bears over the 2.5 mile course, crossing the finish line in 15:26.9 for 13th place.
Weber State traveled to Logan, Utah for the Utah State Invite for the first race of the season. Senior Brett Hales came in second overall, leading the Wildcats with a time of 21:59.7 over the 7200m course. The women’s team started the season off with a 2nd place finish, beating Utah State and Utah, but losing to No. 20 BYU. Sophomore Sarah Callister came in second overall with a 26 second improvement on her course time from the year before.
The Eastern Washington men won and women placed fifth at the Clash of the Inland Northwest last Saturday. In the men’s 8,000-meter race, Bowe Ebding finished 13th with a time of 26:29.50 and in the women's 5,000-meter race, Angelica Rodriguez placed 13th as well with a time of 19:10.72
The Northern Arizona Men's cross country teams beared the elements to capture the 2009 George Kyte Classic title while the women placed third. Senior Jason Pedersen finished second overall with a time of 26:22.2 while junior Andrew Belus and sophomore Tim Freriks placed third and fourth overall.
