Big Sky Volleyball Notes, Sept. 6

Ogden, Utah (Sept. 6) - Big Sky play continues into the third week of tournaments after seeing lots of
action last weekend. Northern Arizona went 3-0 at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament
while NAU’s Kobi Christensen was named the tournament MVP. Sacramento
State took the title at their home tournament and sophomore middle
blocker Janelle Currey took home the MVP honors.

Idaho State’s fourth win over ranked Cal Poly this past weekend marked the fi rst time in 15 years the
Bengals opened the season with a 4-0 mark. Portland State faced tough matchups
at the Northwest Challenge, going 1-2 with losses to No. 9 Washington and
Boise State and a win over Gonzaga. Montana also faced tough competition
in Cal State Fullerton, Colorado and Georgia State, going 3-0 last weekend…

Northern Colorado, however, had a good weekend and increased their
winning streak to six as they swept their at-home tournament against UMKC,
South Dakota, Fairfi eld and Georgia. Th e Bears’ win over Georgia marked the
fi rst time since 1981 that the Bears’ have won a match against an SEC program.
Big Sky teams head into their third weekend of tournament play as Montana
plays host to Utah State, Temple and North Dakota in the Montana Tournament.
Northern Colorado travels to Wyoming to face Texas-Arlington, Portland and Wyoming. Northern Arizona and Montana State travel North this week. The Lumberjacks will travel to Reno, Nev. to play UNR, Arizona and Pacific.

The Bobcats will be in Pullman, Wash. to play Washington State and Cal Poly. Sacramento State heads South to Albuquerque, N.M. to face New Mexico, UC Santa Barbara and Saint Mary’s. Weber State and Idaho State head to the Midwest this weekend as the Wildcat’s will face Woff ord, Gardner-Webb and Kennesaw in Boiling Springs, N.C. and the Bengals face Drake, South Dakota, Stephen F. Austin and Winsconsin-Green Bay. Portland State is the only Big Sky team not playing in a tournament this weekend as they cruise down the coast of California playing San Jose State, Santa Clara and Cal State Northridge.
