Release, All-Conference, and Results
The Big Sky Conference will be represented by 39 female and 39 male athletes at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Austin, Texas this weekend.
Athletes qualify for the preliminary round by finishing the season with a result that ranks in the top 48 in the region. The Sacramento State women will send eight athletes to the regional, followed closely by Eastern Washington with seven. Sacramento State won its third straight women’s Big Sky outdoor title two weeks ago in Ogden, Utah.
The Hornets’ Moira Robinson has qualified for the 100m-hurdles, long jump, triple jump, and high jump. She was named the 2010 Big Sky Outdoor Women’s Field Athlete of the Meet after taking hame four gold medals at the Big Sky Championships.
The Big Sky men are lead by Weber State with 13 athletes making the trip to Austin. The Wildcat men’s team won their first outdoor title since 2006 after sealing 2010 title in the final event. Northern Arizona will send eight different athletes to the regional after just missing out on their fourth straight outdoor Big Sky title.
Northern Arizona’s All-American David McNeill enters the regional with the nation’s best 5,000m time. He is the reigning indoor national champion and finished second at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championship.
Sacramento State’s Ronald Brookins qualified for the 110m-hurdles and the long jump. His time in the hirdles of 13.76 is currently the 13th best time in the nation. Last year Brookins finished 24th overall at the NCAA Outdoor Championship.
