Sacramento State Women's Basketball Honored by the NCAA
The program received an Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Award from the NCAA.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Sacramento State women’s basketball program received an Academic Performance Program Public Recognition Award from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), it was announced on Wednesday, May 12.
The teams recognized posted multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores in the top 10 percent of all squads nationally in their respective sports.
Of the 43 women’s basketball programs in the country that were recognized, Sacramento State was the only school honored in the state of California, which has 23 schools that compete at the Division I level in women’s basketball.
"Earning this honor for the third straight year is a great tribute to the culture of our program," head coach Jamie Craighead said. "We have prided ourselves in the quality of student-athletes we've been recruiting, and the award speaks volumes to their commitment in the classroom once they step foot on campus. The recognition is something that we share with our entire administrative staff and the academic team we have in the SARC (Student-Athlete Resource Center)."
Sacramento State is one of only 22 schools to earn the honor in women’s basketball the last three seasons, and is the only program to do so in the Pacific or Mountain time zones. Over the time period, only one other California institution, Stanford, has been honored, as they were recognized once in 2007-08.
For the 2009-10 year, the program was one of only four Big Sky sports honored, along with Eastern Washington’s men’s cross country team, Idaho State's women's cross country team and Montana State's women's tennis team.
The APR includes eligibility, retention and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport.
