Tennis Players of the Week Announced

OGDEN, UTAH (April 22, 2010) - The Big Sky Conference has selected the tennis Players of the Week for matches played between April 14 and April 22. Sacramento State’s Clarisse Baca is the women’s Player of the Week. Motana’s Facey is the men’s Player of the Week.
Facey, a freshman from Cameron Park, Calif., helped the Grizzlies clinch the No. 4 spot in the men’s championship by winning crucial matches against conference opponents Eastern Washington, Montana State and Northern Colorado. Facey won all three of his matches against at the No. 4 and No. 5 positions, leading the Grizzlies to three conference wins.
On Friday, Facey defeated Chad Henninger from Eastern Washington 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 at No. 5, followed by a 6-2, 6-1 victory Saturday over Northern Colorado’s Connor Buchanan at No. 4. On Sunday, Facey topped Esteban Ferraro of Montana State 6-2, 6-3.
Facey, a true freshman, is now 10-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play after his four-match winning streak. In his last 10 matches, Facey is 8-2.
Baca, a sophomore from Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico, went 2-0 in singles play and 2-0 in doubles play last week.
The Hornets went 1-1 last week, losing to No. 55 Arizona, but clinched the regular-season title by defeating Northern Arizona 6-1 the following day. The Hornets are seeded No. 1 in the conference as they seek their ninth straight championship this weekend.
Baca defeated Natalie Toporowska of Arizona 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles, and Yumi Hasegawa of Northern Arizona 6-3, 6-2.
In doubles play, Baca paired with teammate Maria Meliuk to win 8-2 at No. 2 doubles against Arizona, and 8-5 against Northern Arizona.
Baca has won 10 straight singles matches and holds a five-match winning streak with partner Meliuk.
