Eastern's Julie Piper Named Player of the Week

OGDEN, Utah (March 8, 2010) - Eastern Washington’s Julie Piper has been named the Big Sky Player of the Week for games played the week of March 1st through the 7th. This is the first weekly award this season for the junior forward from Roseburg, Ore.

Piper tallied 20 points, 13 rebounds, and one blocked shot in Eastern Washington’s 78-68 victory over the Portland State Vikings Saturday at Reese Court in Cheney, Wash. Eastern Washington finishes the season 19-10 overall and their 12-4 record in the Big Sky led to the first regular season title in program history.

Piper was 7-of-15 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line as she finished with her fifth double-double of the season. This was also the Piper’s seventh time being in double figures in rebounds. The junior finished the regular season averaging 12.1 points per game, she is the only player on the roster who’s scoring average has reached double digits. Piper also leads the team in rebounds at 7.8 per game.
