Eastern Washington clinches the regular season title outright

Pocatello, Idaho (March 5, 2010) - Sacramento State's bid to grab a piece of the regular season title fell short tonight in Pocatello, Idaho. Idaho State outlasted the Hornets (14-14, 9-6 BSC) in ovetime winning 69-67. The Bengals (15-14, 10-6 BSC) have now won six straight and ended Sacramanto's State's streak at three.

Ashleigh Vella and Oana Iacovita led the Bengals with 18 points a piece. Vella grabbed eight rebounds, while Iacovita nabbed six. Chelsea Pickering chipped in with 13 points, shooting 4-of-9 from behind the arc.

Andrea Videbeck hit a late jumper to put the Bengals up for good late in overtime. For the game Idaho State shot 6-of-13 from the free-throw line. Vella was the best performer on from the charity stripe shooting 5-of-6, with the rest of the team going 1-for-7.

Sacramento State's 67 points is well its season average of 80.2 coming into the contest. Senior Charday Hunt turned in a double-double scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Hunt was followed by Erika Edwards with 15 points, and Emily Christensen with 13 points. Christensen also grabbed nine rebounds, while Edwards had eight.

With Sacramento State's loss Eastern Washington has clinched the regular season title outright. The Eagles will host the Big Sky Conference Championship March 11-13 at Reese Court in Chener, Wash. There still is plenty for the Hornets to play for, as they can still recieve a No. 3 seed in the tournament. After Saturday's action all of the seeds will be settled and matchups will be announced.
