Montana State Advances to the Semifinals

Cheney, Wash. (March 11, 2010) – Montana State will move onto the semifinals at the Big Sky Women’s Basketball Championship after defeating no. 3 Sacramento State 89-66. The win is the third over the Hornets (15-15) this season for the no. 6 Bobcats (17-13).
Sophomores Katie Bussey and Janette Jackson led the Montana State charge. Bussey poured in 21 points shooting 5-of-8 from the three-point line, while Jackson grabbed 16 rebounds and posted 12 points. Junior Sarah Strand chipped in with 14 points, seven boards, and three blocked shots. Strand finished the first-half with 14 points, with the last bucket giving her 1,000 career points.
Sacramento State entered the game as the conference’s top scoring offense, but where held to well under its average of 79.7 points per game. Senior Charday Hunt and junior Emily Christensen each scored 15 points. Christensen collected 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Senior Ashley Garcia contributed with 11 points, three assists, and three steals.
The Bobcats will now face no.1 Eastern Washington in the late semifinal game tomorrow at 6 p.m. PST.
