Weber State senior Steve Panos has been selected as the Big Sky Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week after helping his team to two key conference victories, including a win over second-place Northern Colorado.
            Panos, who claimed the weekly honor for the first time in his career, averaged 17. points and seven rebounds per game. He shot 73.3 percent from the field and 85.7 percent from the free-throw line.
            The 6-foot-8 center from Salt Lake City, Utah, scored a career-high 29 points with nine rebounds on Saturday night, leading the first-place Wildcats to an 81-76 victory over Northern Colorado. Panos made 10-of-13 shots from the field and was 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Panos’ biggest basket came with 1:02 to play and the Wildcats clinging to a 73-71 lead. Panos scored down low and was fouled. He completed the three-point play to put the Wildcats up 76-71.
            The victory improved Weber State to 11-2 in conference, giving the Wildcats a two-game lead with three games to play over Northern Colorado.
            On Friday, Panos scored five points with five rebounds, a blocked shot and a steal in a 76-66 home win over Northern Arizona.
