OGDEN, Utah (January 25, 2010) - Eastern Washington’s Kyla Evans has been named the Big Sky Player of the Week for games played the week of January 18th through the 24th. This is first weekly award this season for the junior guard from Brewster, Wash. Evans led the Eagles as they extended their winning streak to seven games with two wins over Idaho State and Weber State.
The win over the Bengals was a matchup of first and second-place teams with Eastern Washington winning 70-60. Evans tallied 11 points, four rebounds, and four steals. In addition, she shot 4-of-8 from the field and 3-of-6 from three-point range. In the 77-65 win over Weber State, Evans led the Eagles with a career-high 24 points. She also collected six rebounds, four assists, and went 8-for-8 from the free-throw line.
Eastern Washington is off to its best conference start in school history. The Eagles now stand at 7-0 in conference play with a two-game advantage in the loss column over Portland State. The two teams will meet on Saturday in another matchup of first and second-place teams.
For the weekend Evans shot .526 from the field and .467 from behind the arc for an average 17.5 points per game.
