The Hornets kick off the second week of the volleyball season by hosting the Sacramento State Invitational this weekend.

The Big Sky volleyball season got off to a great start as Idaho State captured the 2009 University of Wyoming Classic Title. The Bengals went 3-0 last weekend with wins over host Wyoming, Rutgers and South Dakota State. Senior Emily Waldron was named the Tournament MVP ... Northern Colorado went 3-1 last week at the North Texas Mean Green Classic picking up wins over UTSA, North Texas and Southern Methodist ... Eastern Washington kicked off the campaign with a few tough matches against No. 14 Oregon, and Missouri State and San Francisco, which both received votes in the AVCA Top 25 preseason poll. The Eagles defeated Missouri State 3-1 ... Sacramento State went 2-1 at the Big Orange Classic in Syracuse ... All nine teams were in action last week and 12 Big Sky players notched all-tournament honors. Up next, tournament play continues with nine more on this week’s schedule. Northern Colorado is at home on Tuesday against Colorado in the first matchup of the week. The Bears, Sacramento State and Portland State will be hosting tournaments on Friday and Saturday. The Hornets face Cal State Bakersfield, UC Riverside and Santa Clara at the Colberg Courts on Friday and Saturday for the Sacramento State Invitational ... Northern Colorado will play North Dakota State, Eastern Michigan and Miami in Greeley. Portland State plays host to the Northwest Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The tournament will include Gonzaga, Washington and Boise State.
