After a week full of upsets and overtime decisions, Montana’s Mandy Morales has emerged as the Big Sky Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2.
The senior point guard averaged 31 points, 6.5 rebounds and six assists per game as Montana went 1-1 on the road. In a battle of the unbeatens on Thursday night at Portland State, Morales notched a season-high 34 points. That is the best single-game scoring performance in the Big Sky this season. She went 15-of-28 from the field and added seven rebounds, two blocks, and a steal, as the Lady Griz fell 72-62 to the Vikings.
Morales turned around on Saturday and scored 28 points in Montana’s 81-56 win at Eastern Washington. She shot 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the field, 4-of-5 from 3-point territory and chipped in eight assists, six rebounds and three steals.
The native of Billings, Mont. shot 61.9 percent from the field and was perfect at the free-throw line last week. She also averaged two steals and one block per contest. Currently, Morales leads the Big Sky in scoring with 16.8 points per game.
