Ogden, Utah (November 2, 2009) - The Big Sky Conference has announced its women’s soccer players of the week for matches played Oct. 26th through Nov. 1st. Northern Colorado forward Marcie Johnson has been named the Offensive Players of the Week, while Idaho State defender Christina Beseris and Eastern Washington goalkeeper Lisa Dimak were named Co-Defensive Players of the Week.
Johnson helped the Bears to wrap up the 2009 season with two unassisted goals and an assist in a victory over Northern Arizona. The Denver, Colo. native played a career match on her senior night, having a hand in three of the Bear’s four goals in the shutout. Johnson tallied her second unassisted goal of the night on a breakaway from 10 yards out putting the final score at 4-0. The win also prevented Northern Arizona from claiming the Big Sky regular season crown.
Senior defender Christina Beseris finished the 2009 strong, in front a hometown crowd, as she anchored the backline in Idaho State’s 4-0 victory over Weber State, earning the Bengals a spot in the Big Sky Conference Tournament. Beseris was a driving force in holding Weber State to two shots on goal in ten attempts leading to a shutout, Idaho State’s third of the season. The defender also recorded a goal and an assist.
Dimak posted her fourth shutout of the 2009 season, in a 1-0 victory over Montana. The road win propelled the Eagles to a second seed berth in the Big Sky Tournament, their first appearance since 2005. The junior from Lake Forest Park, Wash. organized a defense that only allowed Montana two shots on goal.
